Dear Parents/Guardians:

I would like to welcome you all to Bridge City High School. I am so excited about this new school year. I know it is going to be great. I would like to answer a few frequently asked questions.

This will help ensure the well-being of your child and others.

When do I keep my child home?

If in the past 24 hours your child has vomited, had loose stools, or had a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, your child needs to stay home. Your child may return to school when they have been free of these symptoms for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medication. Example: no Tylenol/Motrin for fever; no Imodium for loose stools; etc. It is important for your child to be well rested upon returning to school to decrease their chances of relapse. If your child will not be coming to school, PLEASE call the office each morning that your child will be out-735-1610.

Do I need to update Contact Information?

Yes, please keep the nurse updated with any phone number and/or contact information changes throughout the year.  As this is our only way of reaching you should your child become ill at school.

Can my child take medicine at school?

If your child needs medication during the school day, please bring it to school in the original container with a note from the parent/guardian giving instructions for dosing.  These instructions must match label dosing instruction for age of child.  If your child will need to take a medication for longer than 10 days, a form is required to be filled out by your child’s doctor and signed by a parent/guardian.

                What about Head Lice?

Head Lice occasionally occurs at the elementary level.  If your child is found to have lice, you will be called to pick up your child to begin treatment.  Your child will be given one day excused absence. However, if he/she is absent more than that one day, those days will be unexcused absences.  Upon returning to school, your child must be brought back to the nurse’s office to be rechecked before returning to class.

Sincerely

Jane Busby RN, BSN
