STATE BOUND

BRIDGE CITY HIGH SCHOOL WINS REGIONAL ACADEMIC SWEEPSTAKES 

          Bridge City High School attended the 3A Regional Academic Meet at Blinn College in Brenham on Saturday, April 12, 2008.  Bridge City had 140 total points to win the sweepstakes trophy.  The nearest competitor had 103.5 points.  This was an overwhelming lead for a regional competition. 

          Madison Davis won first place in Editorial Writing.  Her coach is Caroline Hennigan.  First place medal. 

          The mathematics team won first place.  Individually, Nick Robertson was first (First place medal), Randy Dupuis was second (Second place medal), Brett Bertles was fifth (fifth place medal), and Stephen Dotson was sixth (sixth place medal).   All four boys got first place team medals. 

The calculator team was also first.  Again Nick, Randy, Brett, and Stephen were first, second, fifth, and sixth.  The calculator team turned in the highest region score in the state. Ditto on medals here. Nick first place medal, Brett second place medal, Brett fifth place medal, Stephen sixth place medal.  All four boys got first place team medals. 

The number sense team was second.  Nick Robertson was third and Stephen Dotson was fourth.  Nick third place medal, Stephen fourth place medal and the team of Nick, Stephen, Brett, and Randy got second place team medals 

The coach for the math events is Faye Parish. 

The computer science team of Nick Robertson , Brett Bertles, Randy Dupuis, and Mike Freuden was second.  (Nick, Brett, Randy, and Mike second place team medals.  Individually, Nick Robertson was second.(Nick second place medal)  The computer science team wild carded to state by virtue of having the highest second place team score in all of the regions.  The computer science coach is Jamye Martin. 

The UIL Academic State Meet will be held in Austin on the University of Texas Campus on Friday and Saturday, May 2&3, 2008.
