The total value of this acreage, buildings,
and equipment is approximately $69,000,000. The
district patrons passed a bond in the fall of 1994 to build a new intermediate
school, a new library, and band hall at the high school, and to provide
renovations and improvements at the other campuses. The high school
moved into the library and band hall in the fall of 1995. The new Bridge
City Intermediate School opened for the beginning of school in the fall
of 1996. The district patrons passed a bond issue in the fall of 2001,
in the amount of $19.675 million, to build a new high school and to
renovate all of the other campuses in the district. This includes the
conversion of the current high school into the Bridge City Middle School.
Educational Programs
The most important aspect of the school
district is its educational programs. The Bridge City ISD believes that
it has the responsibility to offer its students a curriculum that is
well balanced, fully developed, and relevant. The principle function
of each facet of the school operation is to augment, promote, and facilitate
the educational program.
The projected student enrollment in the
District for 2007-2008 is approximately 2500 students. The approximate
enrollment by campus is: Senior High - 720; Middle - 551; Bridge City
Intermediate - 563; Hatton Elementary - 413; Sims Elementary - 234.
Hatton Elementary campus has grades PK-K
and Early Education Programs. Sims has 1-2. They both have strong academic
programs with G/T programs in Grades 1-2.
The Bridge City Intermediate campus has
grades 3-5. It will continue the strong emphasis on academic programs
with the G/T program in Grades 3-5.
The Bridge City Middle School has grades
6-8 and operates under a "middle school" philosophy. The Middle
School offers a strong required academic program and a varied selection
of elective courses. The student council, honor society, and various
clubs and organizations are active and provide students with additional
learning experiences. It also has a a G/T program in grades 6-8.
The Bridge City High School has grades
9-12. The High School offers a strong required academic program and
a comprehensive elective program. Through their selection of courses,
students may elect to study vocational programs, become proficient in
secretarial and business programs, obtain a general high school educational
background with emphasis in areas of interest and aptitude. They may
also select a challenging advanced college preparatory program which
includes many honor and advanced placement classes. The student council
honor society, various clubs and organizations are active and provide
students with additional learning experiences.
The Bridge City District, on a district
wide basis, operates a state recognized multilevel curriculum program
designed to meet the educational needs of each student. Also, a comprehensive
Special Education Program is available to assist students with special
needs.
The school libraries contain book selections
appropriate to the age and interest level of the students and the number
of titles exceeds the state acccreditation requirements. The libraries
operate as educational resource centers with collections of filmstrips,
microfilm, tapes, computers, and the necessary equipment for utilization
by students. A certified librarian is assigned to each campus in the
district.
Extra-Curricular Activities
The extra-curricular activity program provides
a variety of opportunities for secondary students, both boys and girls.
The athletic program includes football, basketball, baseball, softball,
volleyball, track, tennis, and golf. These activities are supported
by excellent facilities. The music activities include the band program
that begins at 6th grade and the choral music program beginning at the
elementary level.
Students also have the opportunity to participate
in Literary and Academic contests. These activities are sponsored by
the District and are governed according to the rules of the University
Interscholastic League.
